Biographical Sketch
Northern Light
Northern Light is one of the upper Midwest's historically prominent rock groups. In 1975, Northern Light released their first single, "Minnesota," which was discovered by Timothy D. Kehr of Columbia Records and, under his guidance, become a national hit. During 80's the group members took the opportunity to concentrate on writing and making demos. This effort evolved in the early 90's to the point where they decided to write and record an album of songs and market the product independently. That product became "Sweet Sunny Day."
David Sandler is the resident arranger and producer of Northern Light whose musical roots quite literally go back to Bach and the Beach Boys. As a piano student of eleven years, he was enthralled by classical works and in partnership with Brian Wilson he co-produced The Spring and American Spring recordings. He has also worked on a few as yet unreleased Beach Boys tracks. David's work with Brian is described in detail in Peter Carlin's new biography about Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys called, "Catch a Wave" which promises to be one of the defining books on the subject.
Their newly recorded CD "49th Parallel" includes a host of new material as well as fan favorite "Minnesota." The group is influenced by the California Sound of the late 60's and early 70's as well as the work of Phil Spector - all with a decided northern edge to it. The band is deeply immersed in its current endeavors and looks ahead to sharing new musical adventures with its growing audience.
